I'm really looking forward to supply shopping for this coming school year, especially some new colorful pens. Personally, I'm partial to ballpoint and LOVE Papermate inkjoys.
Any other suggestions, beside the obvious staedtler fineliners?

Personally I've always found the ballpoints I've bought have failed to live up to what I wanted. Either the ink didn't run properly, the colours were too pale/hard to see, or both! I've always ended up reverting to the trusty fineliners, so that's what I'm doing this year. I'm interested to see if you have any joy though!

My best friend uses the Papermate inkjoys and I use the staedtler fineliners, so you can't go wrong there! I bought these pens a couple of weeks ago, and I've used them for both my notes and my bullet journal and I'm pretty pleased! They are erasable, but I've found that they're never able to erase everything entirely, so as long as you're okay with that, I would recommend them! Another friend of mine has used these pens ever since she was in primary school, so I assume that she really likes them! And the colours she uses are always so strong and bright, if you know what I mean? so you may prefer those!

I like to use the Bic ballpoint stick pens--the black ones with a clear body and a black cap)--for just about everything. They write smoothly, last a long time, and are cheap ($1.40 for a pack of 20 at BigLots where I'm from). For special things like study guides and notes, I'll be trying out Staedtler Fineliners this year. Wish me luck!

Pilot juice pens come in an amazing variety of colours and they write really nicely! They're gel pens, but I think it's worth giving them a try since they last pretty long and aren't expensive imo.

I mean, you can't go wrong with Pilot G2 pens. They're pretty much the go-to pen for everything. The only bad thing about it is that sometimes, the ink will suddenly give out on you. That's why I use the Pilot VBall Grip and the Uni-Ball Signo. Both pens don't ever give out (at least not yet on me anyway) and I find them pretty comfortable to write in. Yeah, I'm a big fan of ballpoint pens.

I like Pilot ink pens for writing as they are easy on the hand and have strong colors. While taking notes in class I use Bic cristal colors for writing the class and the title as well as highlighting some things. When I study, I use the same Pilot pens and assorted Stabilos, as well as several brand and offbrand highlighters.
From time to time I like to write with a fountain pen that was given to me.

Staedtler Triplus fineliners, Stabilo 88, Marvy Le Pen, Uniball Signo pack, Ohto mechanical pencil, ZEBRA midliners, papermate flair pens. If you're willing to pay big money as in 30-20$ for each pack, except for flair pens, then this list should cover it.

For marker pens: Stabilo 88 (although they aren't as fine as I expected them to be--I'm used to Sakura Micron 05 which is super super fine!), Paper Mate Flair (they come in Ultra Fine, but Medium is cheaper and easier to find! And honestly pretty good quality. I'm partial to the Tropical Vacation pack--the colors are so cute!)
With felt-tipped pens you do have to be careful about bleeding/showing through, and even though these don't really have an issue with bleeding, the darker colors might show through a bit depending on the thickness of your paper.
For regular writing pens: Uniball Signo (gel pens), Zebra colored ballpoints
What you kind of have to be careful about with Zebra is the colored pens, though. Their black pens generally write really smoothly and are lovely, but the colored ones sometimes have issues. But they're pretty cheap and easily available! And the colors are pretty nice and bright.
Also, I definitely prefer black gel pens to black ballpoints, but that could just be me. I just find that gel pens tend to have smoother, darker ink when it comes to black.
(Note: Stabilos aren't really as expensive as people make them out to be! Staedtler is expensive, but I got a 10-pack of Stabilo 88s on Amazon for about $6. It's really great.)
